Bedrock:
the method.
The method we apply with every client, put in writing — co-authored by David Gil Mayoral and Emerson A. Pérez. You don't have to wait for the book to apply it to your organization.
The method in four moves
These aren't four separate concepts — they're four steps applied in order, one after another, until they produce a real decision.
- First principles. Breaking down a problem or a technology to its most basic truths, without accepting inherited industry assumptions.Example: It's the same calculation that led Elon Musk to found SpaceX: by breaking down a rocket's price material by material, he found the raw materials cost only 2% of what Russian suppliers were charging him. This is how we start every project at Bedrock: by questioning the assumption no one has dared to write down. This is our approach ↗
- Exponential thinking. Measuring the real speed at which something is improving, not the speed it appears to improve at from the outside.Example: The cost of lithium batteries drops 15–20% every time cumulative production doubles — a pattern that's held steady since the 1990s and that almost no one projected in time. It's the same question we answer in every AI assessment we run for a client. How we apply it to AI ↗
- Signals and scenarios. Building several possible futures, not a single prediction, and watching which early signals point to which one is unfolding.Example: Shell was the only major oil company that had already considered an OPEC embargo before 1973 — because it had spent a year building that scenario, not trying to predict it.The same discipline we use to decide which technology is worth investing in first. How we apply it to governance ↗
- The radical questions. Five questions that force a decision, not an opinion:
- What real job is the customer hiring this to do?
- What assumption would destroy our advantage if it turned out to be false?
- What would a competitor with no legacy to defend do?
- How fast are the limitations that protect us disappearing?
- What happens if we stay exactly where we are for two more years?
Applied to a single client or an entire industry, the four phases produce the same output: not a prediction, but a clear map of what's worth acting on now — and what's only worth watching.
Recognize your organization in any of these four points?
